It's ok to be sad sometimes

It's ok to be sad sometimes
Did you know that approximately 10 million Americans are affected by seasonal affective disorder (SAD), with an estimated 10-20% more cases going undiagnosed?  While it is much more common among women than men and typically begins around age 20, anyone can experience SAD.

There is a good chance that you or someone you know battles with some form of depressive disorder. After all, over 50% of people report having family members with depression issue. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution—because depression impacts people differently—there are a number of natural solutions to help reduce or eliminate symptoms. In some cases, seasonal depression may even be preventable.

My goal is to spread the word about seasonal depression and how to manage symptoms naturally. Join me for this month's Mental Health class "Facing Seasonal Depression" to understand common causes, symptoms, and treatment options.

Here's 3 ways to take charge of your mental health today:

Self Love is BACK...

Self Love is BACK...
" I love myself, I think I'm great....". ~Song from my Dad

I have a song ingrained in my head from childhood from my Dad (the intro to it is above).  It came back into my life while raising my own kids.  Repetition of catchy songs and things we repeat to ourselves literally rewire the pathways of our brains and thus rewrite the stories in our heads about self-doubt and worthlessness.

Our brains are naturally programmed to pay attention to negatives in our lives. This is a response of the autonomic nervous system to trigger our fight or flight response designed to keep us safe. And while our fight or flight response is super important to keep us alive and well, it also is being triggered throughout our daily lives at the slightest inconveniences or disruptions when we are actually safe. To feel the sense of safety and calm our nervous system when it is ignited requires mindfulness and effort to rewire the synapses of our brains. The easiest way to rewire our old or ingrained patterns is the process of repetition.

Since repetition builds neural paths in our brain along which thoughts travel. I'm offering a 14-day Self Love challenge

So, if you're telling yourself a story that lacks self-confidence, self-love, and abundance or are living in a a space of self-doubt, worry, and scarcity....than join me for the next 14-days of self love by just  clicking here.  It starts right away!

Check-up from the Neck-up

Check-up from the Neck-up
I'm good enough, I'm smart enough & dogone it people like me."
~Stewart Smalley SNL

Did you know that MRI scans show that when people practice self-affirmation, certain neural pathways are increased in the self-related information processing part of the brain. This means that those who practice self-affirmation are able to effectively change the way we process information about ourselves.

What does this mean for you?
Using an affirmation practice can rewrite your relationship to yourself.

What are some affirmations you can start using today?
Even though Stewart Smalley was a comedy skit on SNL he has some great ones that you can google & use.

Unless you have one in mind right now, try this one....
"At this moment, right here & right now, all is well."

Now, close your eyes for a few moments, put your phone down, and repeat it for a minute straight...set your timer.

Take it up a notch by looking at yourself in a mirror while you do it.

Do this with intentionality every day for a week and watch it rewire your brain!

Keep reading about Affirmations here.

Reflect, Pursue or go Insane

Reflect, Pursue or go Insane
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over and expecting different results". ~Albert Eiinstein

Remember when you graduated high school or college?

Perhaps you knew where you were headed or at least thought you did?!. Graduation season is a reminder to look back at how far you've come and also a time to muster the courage to pursue your next step.

We can dream and wish all we want, but we only get what we have the competency to have and keep.  Everything can look tempting.  We can even begin to lust after others' accomplishments or possessions.

When living in a world of anxiety, stress and depression this can get us sidetracked from our own dreams and realness. There's a word we use in yoga, "adikara".  It means the right to know or the right to have.  It's meant to challenge us to the reality that if we want something, then we better grow the competency required to have it. Otherwise we're probably not going to keep & haven't even earned it.

Based on where you are in your life right now, what is one thing that you want for yourself?  Weight loss, less stress, better relationships, more money, etc.  What are you doing to work towards that?

If you start something this month
you will you be able to look back in December 2022 to see how far you've come towards that.

If you keep doing what you're doing right now,
you won't be able to see your growth towards your dreams because you'll have done the same thing you've always done to give you the same results that you already have---which is what we all know as insanity, doing the same thing over & over again expecting different results.

Unsure of what you want or need?
That's why I have my  28 to elevate program.  It's meant to guide you over 28 days to uncover what you need to focus on for better health right now AND give you the momentum for real change to feel your best.

You can access this program FREE when you schedule your 3 private Yoga at the Lake classes this month (on land, Paddleboard or Reformer).  Learn more here.

Cheers to your dreams,
Keri
